What is the visa situation for visiting Mozambique?

The visa requirements and process for visiting Mozambique vary depending on your nationality and the purpose of your visit.

Visa Requirements:

  1. Tourist Visa: Most visitors require a tourist visa. You can obtain it in three ways:

    • E-Visa: Apply online, upload the required documents (passport, air ticket, proof of accommodation), and pay a fee of about $50. Confirmation and an e-visa barcode will be emailed within five working days. This must be printed and presented at the border.
    • Visa on Arrival: Available at major airports and border posts for a fee of $50, valid for 30 days. You need a passport with at least six months’ validity, a return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation.
    • Visa at Embassies/Consulates: Apply before travel by submitting a completed visa application form, passport-sized photos, proof of financial stability, flight itinerary, and hotel reservation to the nearest Mozambican embassy or consulate. Processing can take up to ten days, and costs vary depending on the type of visa and processing speed.
  2. Other Types of Visas:

    • Business Visa: You must provide a letter from your company or the inviting company in Mozambique, along with hotel and flight reservations.
    • Work Visa: This visa requires a work contract, an authorization letter from the Ministry of Labor, a health certificate, and a police clearance certificate.
    • Transit Visa: This is for travellers passing through Mozambique to another destination.

Visa Exemptions:

  • Nationals of several neighbouring and regional countries, such as Angola, Malawi, and Tanzania, can enter Mozambique without a visa for up to 90 days.
  • Holders of diplomatic or service passports from countries including China, Brazil, and India are also exempt.

Important Considerations:

  • Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least six months from entry into Mozambique and have at least three blank pages.
  • Travelling with Minors: If travelling with children under 18, ensure a notarized parental consent letter and the child’s birth certificate. If not, both parents are present.
  • COVID-19 Requirements: Fully vaccinated travellers can enter without restrictions. Unvaccinated travellers must present a negative PCR test within 72 hours before arrival.

These requirements are subject to change, so it is advisable to check the latest updates from official sources or the Mozambican embassy or consulate in your country before planning your trip (Embassy of Mozambique)
