Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique sit at the heart of what we do. Mike Varndell, our founder, was born in Zimbabwe and has spent over fifteen years building relationships with the finest camps and lodges across the region. The team visits these destinations regularly, so every honeymoon we build is shaped by knowledge that only comes from being there.

The Classic Africa Honeymoon: Bush Meets Beach

Our most popular honeymoon combines a safari in Malawi, Zambia, or Zimbabwe with a few days on the Mozambique coast or the shores of Lake Malawi. The intensity and drama of the bush, followed by the total stillness of the beach. A combination that works every time.

Malawi

Liwonde National Park and Majete Wildlife Reserve offer some of southern Africa’s most intimate safari experiences. Small camps, exceptional guides, and far fewer vehicles than the more famous parks further north. Here, you can watch a breeding herd of elephants cross the Shire River at dusk without another vehicle in sight.

Zambia

South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi are two of the continent’s finest safari destinations. Walking safaris with skilled guides, canoe trips at dawn, private bush dinners under more stars than you have ever seen. For couples who want to feel genuinely immersed in the wilderness rather than simply observing it, Zambia delivers that more consistently than almost anywhere else.

Zimbabwe

For couples who want to go beyond the well-worn safari circuit, Zimbabwe offers extraordinary experiences in parks that see far fewer visitors than their equivalents elsewhere in Africa. Hwange National Park is one of Africa’s great elephant destinations, with herds that are hard to believe. The park’s watering holes during the dry season are among the continent’s most extraordinary wildlife spectacles.

Mana Pools, on the Zambezi floodplain, is in a category of its own. A UNESCO World Heritage Site where walking safaris are the norm and the wildlife encounters are as raw and unmediated as anywhere in Africa. For couples who want something genuinely unique, Mana Pools is the answer.

Safari Made for Two

A honeymoon safari should feel different from a regular one. Private game drives rather than shared vehicles. Sundowners set up just for you at a place your guide has chosen. Camps selected for their seclusion and atmosphere, not their facilities list. This is what we ensure for every couple we work with.

The camps we recommend for honeymooners share certain qualities: small in scale, serious about guiding, and designed to feel genuinely remote even when they are not. A four-guest camp in Majete Wildlife Reserve. A private tent on the Zambezi floodplain at Mana Pools. A stilted suite above the Luangwa River in South Luangwa. We know these places because we have stayed in them.

Beach and Island Escapes

Mozambique: Bazaruto Archipelago

Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago is one of Africa’s best-kept secrets, and we intend to keep it that way. A national marine park encompassing five islands off the coast, it offers pristine beaches, warm Indian Ocean waters, coral reefs in excellent condition, and a handful of lodges that accommodate very few guests at a time. The sense of privacy here is absolute.

Lake Malawi: Likoma and Mumbo Islands

Closer to home, Lake Malawi offers its own kind of romance. Likoma Island sits in the middle of the lake, closer to the Mozambican shore than the Malawian one, and feels entirely removed from the outside world. Mumbo Island is smaller still: uninhabited, off-grid, and one of our most consistent recommendations for couples who want total seclusion.
