Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve covers approximately 1,802 sq km of land and has gone through significant conservation efforts in recent years. African Parks, a nonprofit conservation organisation, took over its management in 2015 and has since been working towards revitalising the reserve. The reserve is known for its diverse array of wildlife species such as elephants, lions, hippos, buffalo, antelopes, and other mammals. The park also boasts an impressive bird population, making it an excellent destination for birdwatchers. Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve is intersected by rivers like the Bua, Dwangwa, and Lingadzi, offering picturesque scenery. Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve is gradually developing tourism facilities to accommodate visitors. Safari experiences, guided walks, and scenic drives are among the activities available. Being an off-the-beaten-path destination, it provides a more remote and untouched wildlife experience compared to some other reserves in the region.
