Walk with the Ellies

Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, also known in Malawi as the Elephant Sanctuary, had 500 elephant moved from other parks within Malawi to this special location. If you want to enjoy the wilderness and have a love for the glorious African Elephant then this is the place to head to. Head out on a short walk along the river bank or head out on a hike to the more remote areas. One of the wonderful guides will help track a herd of elephant, there are so many of them to see around and if you catch them on a good day they can be extremely entertaining.

  • Back to nature, fantastic food & great people

When we arrived we immediately had a very warm welcome from Mike & Dileen. Our tent was nice, equiped with its own private bathroom, hidden in the green surroundings of the Park. Just a note for future guests: there is no electricity in the tents, but you will be provided with a solar light at night and you can charge your phone at the main lodge at all times.
The lodge is situated in the midst of nature, close to the river, which makes a beautiful view.
Also the food was absolutely delicious, one of the best we had in Malawi!
Above all that the staff is really friendly and always ready to help.
African Parks just brought in new animals, so in a few years chances of seeing animals are higher.

  • Scoping out stay for future group visits

A wonderful, rustic, real African bush experience. What an opportunity to live among nature, within the trees and with stunning views (and sounds) of the river. My room/tent offered an authentic, special retreat while the lodge/bar area provided a chance to chill for the day, reading my book, taking in the sights and sounds of the river and surrounding wildlife… before heading out for a wilderness walk to get even closer to nature. A real energising of the senses… loved it.

  • Great place and awesome people

I had a lovely visit, and most importantly was attended by amazing people, staff, managers, guides, every single person was always available to help. As a solo traveler this kindness makes you feel less far from home. The place is situated in a wonderful place, and even if we weren’t lucky seeing big animals the flora and beautiful river make the walks worth it. Will definitely recommend it for those who love to explore and connect with nature.
