Bazaruto Island is the largest of six white sandy islands in the Bazaruto archipelago, which is managed by African Parks. They are positioned off the coast of southern Mozambique, opposite the vibrant coastal town of Vilanculos.
The warm surrounding seas are known for their pristine reefs and subsequently the vast array of marine life making it a haven for scuba divers, fishing enthusiasts and snorkelers, particularly at the popular ‘two-mile reef’. The diversity of sea mammals here is quite spectacular with creatures such as dugongs, dolphins, whale sharks, manta rays, humpback whales, five species of Indian Ocean turtles, and of course many species of fish, crustaceans and more.
Bazaruto has some great birding with over 180 species, including Palearctic migrants, 26 species of waders, plus large flocks of flamingos and pelicans!
The lodges here all offer you your very own piece of island paradise, with mouth watering seafood, fantastic accommodation and a huge diversity of water- and land-based activities. Spend your days lounging by the beach or the swimming pool, get pampered at the spa, go on day excursions to other islands, or enjoy a serene horse ride on the dunes or a sunset cruise. If you’re up for getting really active, chuck around a volleyball, scuba dive, snorkel, fish, kayak, waterski, wakeboard, paddleboard, hit the gym or even play a spot of tennis.
Passionate about marine conservation and scuba diving? Or just spend every waking minute dreamy of a soft white sandy beach to bask on? Bazaruto is your spot – great for couples, families or groups of friends!
