Most travellers require a visa to enter Mozambique. Visas can often be obtained in advance from a Mozambican embassy or consulate. Some nationalities may be eligible for a visa on arrival at major airports or border crossings. Always check the latest visa requirements before travel.

The best time to visit is during the dry season, from May to October when the weather is pleasant and wildlife viewing is at its peak. The wet season (November to April) is characterized by heavy rainfall, particularly in the north, but it can be a good time for fewer crowds and lush scenery.

The official language is Portuguese. Many local languages are spoken, such as Makhuwa, Tsonga, and Sena. English is understood in tourist areas but not widely spoken in rural regions.

Tap water isn’t considered safe for tourists to drink. For environmental reasons, try to avoid buying bottled water. Ask your leader and accommodation provider for local advice on where drinking water can be accessed. Also, avoid ice in drinks and peel fruit before eating.
