Anvil Bay has the perfect balance of a beach and bush feel to it, with canvas tents, complimented by thatch, they are nestled in the canopy of the coastal forest but just a few steps away from the sandy white beach. The lodge creates an incredible getaway for the whole family to enjoy, with a number of activities, gorgeous views, delicious cuisine and friendly staff it’s a wonderful combination to creating the perfect getaway.
The accommodation
Built using natural materials and by local craftsmen, the furnishings are simple yet functional. The design of the rooms takes advantage of the cool ocean breeze, roll up the sides and feel in touch with the natural surrounds. With luxury bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers and little light around the rooms in the evening, take full advantage of the African sky at night. Each room also offers a private dining deck so you can enjoy some peace and quiet in your home away from home chalet.
Endless Adventures
After a delicious breakfast you can head out with the marine guides and an ocean adventure. Snorkel the pristine coral reefs, swim with wild dolphins, encounter the migrating humpback whale or spot the magnificent turtles when they surface. Back on land, you can explore the in-land dune forest trails or take a leisurely stroll on the beach and look out for the birdlife around you. During some month you may even be lucky to catch the turtles nesting (October – March). Not to mention there are a number of other activities to enjoy, ocean and shore fishing, beach activities, body boarding and beach bikes.

From the moment you arrive you feel you are part of the Anvil family. The atmosphere is very laid back, but the team are on the ball at all times. With their infectious smiles and warm hospitality the staff at Anvil Bay will add to the whole experience when staying here. From the management, to the chef and even the marine guides, they continue to surprise you with their down-to-earth moods and to the nothing is ever too much to ask.

Amazing place, great story, fantastic people !
Start with the place. Anvil bay is a pristine piece of beach which can only be reached after a 1.5 hour 4×4 drive on sandy tracks. There are a lot more crabs than people there (in fact for the first couple of nights we had the beach for ourselves), the beach has a resident eagle, the only noise you hear is that of the waves, there are whales breaching just off the shore and a very healthy coral reef just the other side of the break.

Perfect Wedding Gift
We were so blessed to celebrate our 25th aniversary at Anvil Bay! Thanks Ricky for this experience, specially for having Jonito waiting for us to be escorted to the lodge. All staff did excellent, and the cabin was just fantastic and beautiful.

Mozambican Beach Paradise
We spent an amazing 6 nights playing on the beach, snorkeling, hiking, taking game drives, exploring tide pools and long walks on the beach. Amazing location with nobody else around, and lovely, attentive staff. Highlights included watching a leatherback turtle lay her eggs on the beach, finding and octopus in a tide pool, birding, seeing lots of elephants and wildlife, and eating great food.
