Hey there, adventure seekers! We have got an incredible safari story to share with you. It is about our journey to Lower Zambezi, a beautiful, wild place in Zambia. Here, we will delve into the accommodations, excursions, and amenities available through our tour operator services, offering our clients an up-close experience of the fantastic adventures we offer.
Our adventure took us to some of the best lodges in Lower Zambezi, including Baines River Camp, Zambezi Grande, Anabezi, Lolabezi, Old Mondoro, Potato Bush Camp, Sausage Tree, Chula, and Kutali. Among these exceptional lodges, we had the pleasure of visiting, there were two that held a special place in our hearts which I thought deserved a special shout-out. Anabezi, nestled deep within the park, a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts with a near guarantee of breathtaking animal sightings, and Old Mondoro, a hidden gem that ensures an uninterrupted safari experience, with animals visiting the camp day and night. Our journey was a mosaic of these remarkable discoveries, enriching our Lower Zambezi experience beyond measure.
To kick off this adventure, we hopped on a flight to Lilongwe and headed to Lusaka, where we spent the night at Latitude 15. It was the perfect spot to unwind before we embarked on a trip that was packed full of adventure. We flew with Proflight Charter to Lower Zambezi the following day, landing at the Royal Airstrip. Here, representatives from Baines River Camp welcomed us here, who drove us into camp, where we spent our first night in Lower Zambezi. This marked the commencement of an exhilarating journey during which we explored
nine incredible lodges and camps.
Our accommodation during the trip was as diverse as the wildlife itself. Each place had unique charm and offerings that left a lasting impression on us. Baines River Camp boasts spacious chalets that provide breathtaking river views, adding tranquillity to our stay. Zambezi Grande astounded us with their culinary wonders and easy access to the river, creating a delightful fusion of gastronomy and natural splendour. Anabezi Camp treated us to a spacious and comfortable chalet with a private pool, offering a perfect
retreat after enjoying the most exciting game drive, chasing wild dogs and getting up close and personal with the wildlife.
Old Mondoro is a unique camp; the central lounge provided us with vistas of the Zambezi on one side and, on the other, allowed us to relish numerous animals venturing up to the lodge. It felt like a vibrant ecosystem and abundant wildlife always enveloped us. Lolabezi is perfect for those seeking a pure luxury safari experience. Very cosy rooms with all the amenities needed, a private plunge pool, 5-star service, and even a game room provided ultimate relaxation and entertainment. Potato Bushcamp has beautiful, spacious tented chalets and offers guests a lovely mix of ‘rustic luxury’. We were treated to a group lunch, and it was right in the middle of the Zambezi River…pinch us!! Before lunch, we enjoyed a fishing activity, which fostered a communal atmosphere, ideal for travellers who relish engaging and socializing with fellow guests.
Sausage Tree Camp, the sister lodge to Potato Bushcamp, exudes more luxury and is just a brief walk away from its sister camp. It presents an impeccable fusion of comfort and the natural world. Chula and Kutali were the last lodges we had the opportunity to explore an exhilarating whirlwind adventure in Lower Zambezi. These tented camps on small islands provided a genuine bush experience, making us feel closer to nature than ever before. We enjoyed canoeing (a first-time experience for both of us). Here, we gained extensive knowledge about various bird species and witnessed the park from a unique vantage point. It was undeniably a tranquil encounter that left us thoroughly rejuvenated and deeply connected with nature.
Our expedition encompassed the incredible wildlife and the varied and splendid accommodations we were fortunate to stay in. Each one contributed a distinctive dimension to our adventure, rendering it an indelible and cherished experience.
Let’s delve into the wildlife we encountered during our enchanting Lower Zambezi Tour! Part of the allure of these magnificent destinations lies in our genuine passion and exhilaration for the wildlife that inhabits these remarkable locations. What makes Lower Zambezi genuinely captivating is the diverse array of opportunities it offers to savour the splendid wildlife right in the heart of Africa. With options ranging from boat transfers and cruises to game drives, fishing excursions, canoeing adventures, and guided walking safaris, there are ample opportunities to encounter wildlife from various perspectives. We saw it all: leopards, lions, wild dogs, buffalos, zebras, hippos, elephants and everything in between. A memorable moment worth highlighting was the successful catch of a tigerfish during our fishing expedition at Potato Bush Camp…a bucket list item for so many!
Meeting the local people and experiencing their culture was a particular part of the journey. The warm and friendly staff at all the lodges made our stay even more memorable and enlightened us about the livelihood of people living close to the park and its history. The culinary offerings were as varied as the wildlife encounters. Every lodge presented a distinct dining experience, from the delectable dishes at Zambezi Grande to the delightful fare at Old Mondoro. Dining became an activity in its own right.
This Fam trip served as an expedition of education and exploration. We acquired priceless knowledge about the lodges and activities we endorse, reaffirming our dedication to delivering exceptional safari adventures for our clients.
