Why we love Sausage Tree Camp
Key Features
When to Visit
Sausage Tree Camp Tours

Sausage Tree Camp is the epitome of euro chic in Africa. With incredible newly built modern tents all open to the river during the day (and closed at night) you will have excellent views of your surroundings. One of the best features here is the guarantee of a private vehicle and guide for your stay which allows you to control your activities and timings, from game drives and walks to canoeing and fishing there is plenty to do here if you want to leave the comfort of the camp!

“Probably one of the best camps I have ever visited. This should say it all as I have seen a lot across Africa! The staff’s attention to detail was incredible, always surprising me with beautiful experiences, from candlelit baths to river lunches – I didn’t want to leave. My guide was exceptional and taught me how to Tiger fish and took me on the most exciting canoeing trip!! I cannot wait to send clients and hopefully go back soon!”

“It’s effortlessly all-consuming. Our rubber had barely touched the airstrip, before we had a cold drink in hand, a sighting in our eyes, and the voice of our guide Ryan in our ears. Your private guide is assigned exclusively to you at Sausage Tree Camp as the first person to welcome you, the last to say goodbye and your knowledgeable guardian for all excursions.  This exclusive hidden gem is worth every penny for the next level rooms with private pools looking over the Zambezi, wildlife on tap, phenomenal food, and top of the range transportation. For an unforgettable, bespoke experience, with the best of the best in undiscovered Zambia…. This Is It.”

Toby Webber, director – May 2019

“Location, location, location! Wow has Sausage tree got that right? Love the pool overlooking the river, the stunning sunset view and the upscale deck… the barman Mike adds charm and charisma to the vibe (Legend and not a bad name either)!! The new rooms (or villas) are on a new level and totally the best the valley has seen yet. Food was exceptional. Boats and vehicles well maintained a great job on the refurb!”

Mike Varndell, managing founder – Nov 2018

Luxury accommodation

The rooms have lavish attention to detail. Despite being a ‘tent’ you feel as though you are in the most modern of places with huge comfy beds, teak furnishings, leather armchairs, huge sunbeds, plunge pools and semi open-air bathrooms so you can shower under the stars. This is one of the few places you may choose to skip an activity to spend some time in your room-not that that will stop you seeing the wildlife. With river views, you can still get your binos out to see a huge array of animals and birds from your own bedroom.

The lodge has a nearby channel off the main river which is used for the canoe safaris – a ‘must’ activity for any guest -it is a thrilling experience. The bird life here is incredible; you can see everything from bucket-list species to up close views of magnificent fish eagles. You can also get up close and personal to the larger mammals such as the hippos and elephants! The guides know the channel and the particular animals like the back of their hands so you can get that all important picture of an elephant head-toss or wide angled hippo yawn! It is one of the most exciting activities you can experience – not to be missed!

Friendly staff

The staff here are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, from the ever present bartender to the warm natured waiters. They go out of their way to make your experience a special one, setting up special locations for dinner, suggesting books from the library and bringing cold beers to you in the huge swimming pool. You have your own private butler who will see to your every need, from escorting you around camp to running you a hot bath for after your game drive – no detail is overlooked here.

  • Wonderful camp with spectacular views over the river

We had absolutely fabulous 4 days at Sausage Tree Camp. Our private guide, Collins, showed us all the beautiful spots and secrets of the Park and he knew where to find the most interesting animals. The Camp managers, Ruth and Simon, were great hosts and did everything to make our stay perfect. Food was amazing too, we also had a lunch on an island in the river and an evening braai in the bush with elephants watching us. Sundowners (Gin Tonics) on the river were a wonderful ceremony and the sunsets are otherworldly.

  • You’ll never want to leave!!!!!

The problem with this place is that you will never want to leave. My partner and I left a few days ago and we are already planning our next trip. We booked direct and arranged our own flights via Expedia from Lusaka to Jeki airstrip in the Lower Zambezi Valley. All we had to do is tell Sausage Tree what time we were arriving and everything else was sorted by them. We arrived on the morning flight and were met buy our guide ( who was assigned to us for the duration of our stay ). Nevers ( his real name ) greeted us with a lovely smile and a thermos drinking flask with ice cold water which was just what the doctor ordered in the heat of the Zambian sun.

  • Views & Safaris

This luxury Lodge is beautifully located on the river edge guaranteeing sensational views from the main area and from the privacy of each suite. Various exciting activities entertain your stay and this is the perfect destination for adrenalin game-sights & birding. In between safaris, you can relax and refresh in your private plunge pool.
