The Itinerary

Days 1 - 3

Time + Tide Luwi | South Luangwa National Park (2 Nights)

Remote Walking Safari Experience

The journey begins in the remote eastern sector of the South Luangwa, where the Luangwa River defines a classic yet wild safari environment. Tafika Camp is positioned beneath mature riverine woodland, offering expansive views across a productive wildlife corridor frequented by elephant, hippo, and abundant birdlife. The atmosphere is relaxed, unpolished in the best sense, and grounded in authentic bush living.

Accommodation consists of spacious bush chalets built around natural trees, featuring en-suite facilities, solar power, and open-air showers designed to integrate with the environment.

Activities include day and night game drives, walking safaris, mountain biking safaris, photographic hides, and cultural village visits. The region is especially strong for leopard, lion, wild dog, elephant, and general game density.

Transfers & Flights: Flight from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) to Mfuwe Airport (MFU), followed by road transfer to Tafika Camp.

Days 3 - 4

Chikoko Tree Camp | South Luangwa National Park (1 Night)

Pure Walking Safari Zone

The itinerary transitions into a dedicated walking-only wilderness zone, accessible exclusively on foot. Chikoko Tree Camp is elevated above an open acacia floodplain, designed to maximise visibility across a highly active wildlife landscape. The camp experience is intentionally minimal, prioritising immersion over infrastructure.

Accommodation is simple yet functional, with raised chalets and open viewing areas overlooking elephant and buffalo corridors. Walking safaris follow established wildlife tracks under the guidance of expert rangers and National Park scouts. The experience is structured around early morning departures, interpretive bush tracking, and direct engagement with the ecosystem.

Transfers & Flights: Walking transfer supported by camp crew from Tafika to Chikoko Tree Camp.

Days 4 - 5

Big Lagoon | South Luangwa National Park (1 Night)

Ebony Lagoon Wilderness

Big Lagoon continues the walking circuit deeper into a remote riverine ecosystem dominated by ebony woodland. The camp overlooks a permanent lagoon system that attracts consistent wildlife activity, particularly elephant, hippo, and predator movement.

Accommodation is set within a shaded grove of mature trees, with elevated viewing decks positioned for uninterrupted wildlife observation. Walking safaris continue under specialist guiding teams, supported by armed scouts and camp staff. The emphasis remains on low-impact exploration and close-range wilderness interpretation.

Transfers & Flights: Walking transfer from Chikoko Tree Camp to Big Lagoon Camp.

Days 5 - 6

Tafika Camp | South Luangwa National Park (1 Night)

Reconnection Point

The route loops back to Tafika Camp, providing a reset point before transitioning into the northern wilderness corridor. This return stay allows operational repositioning and flight staging into North Luangwa.

Guests continue to enjoy classic riverfront safari experiences with game drives and guided activities available in the surrounding Nsefu sector.

Transfers & Flights: Walking transfer from Big Lagoon to Tafika Camp.

Days 6 - 7

Mwaleshi Camp | South Luangwa National Park (1 Night)

North Luangwa Wilderness Entry

The journey shifts into North Luangwa National Park, a region defined by absolute remoteness and minimal human presence. Mwaleshi Camp is positioned along a dramatic river bend with direct access to unroaded wilderness. The experience is fully walking-driven, supported by a small operational footprint.

Accommodation is intentionally simple, with thatched chalets, solar power, and open-air river-facing bathrooms designed for immersion in the environment. Activities include guided walking safaris, river crossings, and exploration of both banks of the Mwaleshi system. The area is known for black rhino, lion, wild dog, elephant, and endemic species such as Cookson’s wildebeest.

Transfers & Flights: Flight transfer via Mwaleshi Airstrip from Tafika region into North Luangwa.

Days 7 - 9

Takwela Camp | South Luangwa National Park (2 Nights)

Remote River Confluence Safari

Takwela Camp is located at the confluence of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers, offering one of the most isolated safari environments in Zambia. The camp overlooks a large hippo-dominated water system, surrounded by untouched wilderness with minimal visitor pressure.

Accommodation consists of intimate en-suite chalets designed for simplicity and comfort, supported by solar infrastructure and open communal spaces. Activities include walking safaris, day and night game drives, river-based exploration, and interpretive tracking. The area delivers strong predator presence including lion, leopard, and wild dog.

Transfers & Flights: Road and boat-supported transfers between Mwaleshi Camp and Takwela Camp.

Days 9 - 13

Tena Tena Camp | South Luangwa National Park (4 Nights)

Ultra-Remote North Luangwa Safari Base

The final stage of the journey is based at Kutandala Camp, deep within North Luangwa National Park, offering one of the most exclusive safari experiences in Africa. Kutandala is positioned within riverine woodland along the Mwaleshi system, with direct access to vast wilderness plains and predator-rich terrain.

Accommodation consists of a small number of luxury tents, designed for comfort while maintaining a strong wilderness footprint. The camp operates on solar power with open communal areas overlooking active game corridors.

Activities focus on immersive walking safaris and expertly guided game drives. The region supports Zambia’s highest elephant density and is one of the few remaining strongholds for free-roaming black rhino. Wildlife encounters regularly include elephant, lion, wild dog, leopard, buffalo, and endemic species unique to the North Luangwa system.

Transfers & Flights: Road transfer from Takwela to Kutandala Camp, with return flight via Mwaleshi Airstrip at journey end.
