Takwela Camp offers that all important intimate and authentic safari to guests, with just 2 rooms you will be sure to get the most out of this incredible little spot. If you are keen on walking safaris, then this is the place you want to head to, however they do also offer game drives. The camp is rustic and comfortable, food delicious and the staff and guides hospitable and knowledgeable.

“I really loved the new Takwela, a perfect blend of a wild and remote lodge, with spacious and comfortable thatched chalets overlooking the Luangwa River. The camp is on the confluence of the Luangwa River and Mwaleshi River, so has plenty of wildlife in the area, including over 200 resident hippos in the perfect sundowner spot. We even saw a leopard in a tree across the river from camp. With walks and drives on offer there are fantastic activity options available. The flora and fauna in the area is diverse, and even have some hot springs nearby that attract fantastic birdlife. The food was incredible, Alex was an exceptional guide and all the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.”

Location

Situated on the banks of the confluence of the Luangwa River and Mwaleshi River the camp is in the perfect location in the north of the park. With wonderful views from camp you can sit back and enjoy watching as the local residents come to the rivers for a drink. Although North Luangwa is usually known just for its walking safaris, Takwela have placed themselves perfectly as they also offer game drives, a great combination when staying here.

Intimate Stay

With only 2 chalets, it is possibly one of the smallest camps in Africa and offers guests an intimate and personal safari experience. Guests can enjoy both walking safaris and game drives and although there is only one guide and you may be sharing activities with the other guests in house, you can still enjoy your safari experience without the crowds.

The Team

The camp is run by a very passionate and experienced team, they are warm and welcoming, and the guides are possibly some of the best around, with up to 20+ years of experience between them. They will add to your incredible stay here and make you feel like family, wanting to know exactly what you want out of your safari, and they will also entertain with some great stories of the African bush.
