Derived from a blended Chewa name, Sungani means “keeper or custodian”. The lodge is a luxury wilderness property that has been designed with a focus on privacy and relaxation in the bush. The lodge is built on an elevated deck with all its structures edged by a huge lagoon with indigenous trees. As a family they are dedicated and focused on restoring and protecting African wilderness while delivering an exciting, authentic and memorable experience for their guests.
Sungani Lodge is situated in the southern part of Africa’s remaining hidden gems, South Luangwa National Park, a true wilderness where nature is the queen. The Luangwa Valley enjoys dramatic seasonal changes, lush fertile soils, and the magnificent Luangwa River which attracts multitudes of wildlife with a dense population of leopards. South Luangwa boasts one of the largest hippo populations on earth and other animal species such as leopards, lion, elephant, wild dog and buffalo call this park home. Activities include game drives, bush meals, day trips (on request), water excursions, photographic hides, walking safaris, and more.
Sungani Lodge boasts seven luxurious and tasteful custom designed tents that are set on top of polished concrete floors, a beautiful haven of relaxation. The interior design focuses on comfort and warm colors with a collection of distinctive pieces and details. The Camp has 4x King rooms and 3x Doubles with queen beds. The Directors’ Tent has Wi-Fi, DSTV, Nespresso machine, outdoor sleeping and much more.
Sungani is extremely remote, and they strive to source their food supplies locally to support the local community. Enjoy the a la carte breakfast and grab something freshly cooked straight from the grill at their breakfast bar. The breakfast features a refreshing juice, home-made granola, fruits, jams, local honey, waffles, muffins, pancakes and more. Lunch is served on the main deck with a mix of meat, hearty salads, homemade bread rolls, flavorful condiments all set in a relaxed buffet style. Their dinner menu changes seasonally as they aim to introduce African flavors with locally sourced meat, vegetables, and fresh garden herbs.
