Nsolo is a rustic bush camp which encompasses barefoot luxury. The camp gets back to nature with all the comforts but without being over the top. Keeping the charm of a bygone era, it continues to appeal to passionate walkers who want to be in the bush as it was first discovered.
To give an authentic bush camp feel, the intimate, five chalet camp incorporates local materials entwined with the trees that have stood there for years. This is the perfect spot for those who have been on a few safaris and are really looking to explore on foot (game drives are available) in rustic, yet, comfortable luxury.
“Loved the wild rustic chalets and the location. Perfect for walking safaris between Luwi and Nsolo, and I have heard amazing things about the sleep-out. Million, the chef has to be one of the best bush chefs in the industry. His food is comparable to that of a 6-star restaurant in London or New York. The hosts were fantastic (Prince was exceptional), brilliant guiding and impressive well kept vehicles. Wildlife was quiet on my visit but we did have a great sighting of a pride of lions and some elephants over lunch.”

Wildlife
As with all the Time+Tide camps, the locations are specially chosen due to the wildlife density. With that in mind, Nsolo is right on the efflux of two lion pride territories. They are often found scent marking the river bed or roaring at each other, it is never a dull day keeping up with the lion’s antics. If that wasn’t enough, the wild dogs are often spotted denning here, year after year.
South Luangwa is well known for its healthy cat populations with leopards being spotted at almost every corner, but there is also a very healthy wild dog population with one pack having 22 members. If this is one of the animals left on your tick list, we suggest you make a visit!
Sleep out
If you ever wanted to sleep out under the stars then this is one of the most magical spots you could choose. You have a hammock style sleeping bag with just a mosquito net to separate you from the elements, set up in the riverbed. Which means you can gently lull to sleep under all the twinkling stars of the milky way.
Enjoy watching as the nocturnal animals around you start to come alive; hippos munching the grass, lions calling to each other and hyenas cackling as they try to steal a kill. But, don’t worry you will have an armed guard carefully watching over you, to keep you safe!
Rustic
Nsolo is one of the few camps that has kept its rustic charm from a bygone era. There are just five thatched chalets on raised decks; each has its own style hidden among the trees using natural features to help blend them into the surroundings. With simple yet comfortable furnishing, it encompasses barefoot luxury.
The main areas are all open-air, set among the trees for shade allowing you to have uninterrupted views of the wildlife. Predominantly a walking camp, it is set up for those who really want to explore the bush without any unnecessary ‘designer chic’ – just raw nature.

Great camp with very good staff
Only stayed for 2 nights but both days were filled with plenty of game viewing. Walking safaris were really good, as well as the animal sightings the guide gave us information concerning what the trees, plants and even the animal droppings were used for by other animals as well as the people.
Tents were large with the bathroom and shower being partly open, taking a shower and watching zebras and baboons at the same time is amazing.
Food was very good and plenty of it, all the staff were very friendly, would certainly return.

Amazing bush camp
I loved it. Everything about it was perfect and the guides were superb. We went on a driven safari the first morning and then we walked and spent the second night under the stars – accompanied by our guide, a cook and a guard! We walked the next day to Kakuli which again was a brilliant camp.

Amazing stay with the elephants in Nsolo
This was the second stop on our Norman Carr South Luangwa tour. We actually walked the entire way from Luwi camp to Nsolo (highly recommend all the bush walks!). The very well appointed villas have a really beautiful patio facing the dry river bed and great outdoor shower/bathrooms. I think the comfort level at this camp was exactly perfect – very spacious and well appointed but not extravagant (I don’t need a fancy bathtub in my villa). We were greeted one night after returning from a game drive to several elephants in Nsolo camp – what a treat! Out of all four Norman Carr camps we stayed at this had the best food (thanks Million!). We saw plenty of animals here.

A lovely bush camp with an authentic African feel
If you are looking for camps in South Luangwa, this camp should be on the list. Nice accommodation on the river bank with typical outside bathroom and great views from the deck. Our guide- Innocent- was very knowledgeable and shared his passion with us every drive whatever we saw. The food was good, staff in the camp very helpful, warm and inviting, we felt right at home.
