Hidden in the remote southwestern reaches of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Kanana Camp offers a peaceful and private escape along the banks of the Xudum River. Surrounded by palm-studded islands and shaded by towering fig and ebony trees, this secluded haven is ideal for wildlife lovers, birding enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a quiet connection with nature. Its location well off the usual safari circuit makes it a perfect choice for travellers craving space, serenity, and raw natural beauty.

Exceptional Location

The surrounding ecosystem is among the most biodiverse in the Delta. Seasonal floods and varied terrain support an extraordinary range of wildlife, from iconic big cats to the tiniest of birds. Birdlife is a standout feature here, with rare sightings such as Pel’s fishing owl drawing serious birders. Whether it’s the thunder of hooves during a predator chase or the gentle splash of a kingfisher diving, Kanana offers unforgettable moments across all seasons.

Unique Activities

A wide range of experiences awaits. Morning and evening game drives reveal Delta’s dynamic wildlife in action. Guests can drift along winding waterways by mokoro, explore the bush on foot with expert guides, or enjoy birding excursions tailored to their interests. Seasonal catch-and-release fishing adds yet another dimension, making Kanana ideal for those wanting a well-rounded and immersive safari.

  • A great stay

“We had a great few days at Kanana. It was our first trip to the delta and the lodge, food and knowledge of the guides was second to none. Going to sleep with the frog chorus and then being woken by the sound of the nearby lions was an unexpected bonus !”

  • Best Holidays Ever – Unforgettable Experience at Kanana Camp

“We had an incredible time with Ker & Downey. Every camp was unique and beautifully run. The combination of Dinaka, Shinde, and Kanana offered a perfect mix of landscapes and wildlife. Kanana Camp, our final stop, had just been renovated and looks amazing! The rooms are bright, stylish, and very comfortable. We had some amazing wildlife sightings, but the absolute highlight was watching nine playful lion cubs over several days, truly magical!”

  • A beautiful luxury camp.

“From Shinde with a small plane to the airstrip of Kanana camp, we were picked up by our guide Inno and received at the camp with singing. The camp had just reopened after the whole thing was renewed and the layout was also changed. It made a very nice and luxurious impression with a beautiful view over the landscape.”
