Rates/Bookings

Sheltered by a combination of Miombo and Mopane trees Chimwala Camp is perched against Chinguni Hill right within the renowned Liwonde National Park. Owned and managed by African Parks, the Camp is constructed from local stones and thatch with a large garden, high ceilings and an al fresco style that matches the outside with the interior. The classic tents feature lovely décor, private verandahs, and open-outdoor bathrooms. Spend your time relaxing by the swimming pool that boasts magnificent views across the floodplain on this true treasure of the bush.

“I visited Chimwala Camp with a group of friends over a long weekend and had the most wonderful time. The camp is beautiful and intimate, perched up on a hill with exquisite views over the floodplain. The staff here are so amazing – incredibly helpful and so warm and friendly. The wildlife viewing we had was incredible, with stunning sightings of the cheetah and black rhino, as well as exquisite birdlife on our drives up the Chinguni Hill. Can’t wait to visit again.”

Rooms

The camp has 4 classic Meru tents all with a private lounge where you can sit and watch animals all over the floodplain enjoying their natural home. The tents are solar powered, so you don’t worry about black-outs and cold showers in the bush. They also have en-suite bathrooms with hot/cold water, flush toilets and showers. If you opt for self-catering, they have full kitchen kit, freezer & fridge to allow you prepare meals of your own choice.

Location

Chimwala Camp is in the renowned big 5 Liwonde National Park. The Camp has spectacular views of the floodplain which is populated with waterbucks, impala and warthogs and special sightings of buffalo, sable antelope, and eland. Be amazed by the sounds of roaring lions at night echo over the plains while jackals and other smaller predators hunt in the darkness. For birding enthusiasts this is the place which is populated with over 400 bird species.

Conservation

In 2015 African Parks took over the management of Liwonde National Park to revitalize the deteriorating ecosystems. Since the onset of African Park’s efforts, the progress is evident by a rapid increase of wildlife populations and an ecology that’s been restored by the re-introduction of predators such as lions, cheetah, wild dog and black rhino, bringing back the wildlife glory into this amazing animal haven. If you choose to stay at Chimwala Camp you contribute to this noble cause as the proceeds are used to protect the rare and endangered animals in this park and sustain the continued ecological systems.

  • Great Location Overlooking Flood Plains

Our first vacation for 2021. A beautiful African Style Camp. With open air toilet located in the bush. Only 4 Tents. Simple, but delicious food. Nice cozy swimming pool for afternoon relaxing. A bar, table, chairs near pool area will be nice

“CBC is one of the best places to stay inside Liwonde National Park. Beautiful Safari Tents with comfortable mattresses. Open air toilet. However recently we faced shortcomings. Cannot leave CBC until 6a.m. So no rhinos. Please change that rule. Also night safaris ?????? Had a tough time convincing. Why Change 🙇🙇🙇”
