If you want to experience peace and tranquillity but also have the occasional tug for activity, the services and dazzling beaches of Zuri are for you. Located in the northwestern shores of Unguja, approximately 50km away from the famous Stone Town, this little paradise is a modern take on Tanzanian hospitality.
They offer rooms in bungalows, suites and villas which are designed to incorporate both contemporary and traditional styles. It has 3 restaurants, 4 bars, a yoga studio, a swimming pool and DVD and book library. They also offer a wide range of activities including cooking classes and an outdoor “wild fitness” gym. As you can tell, they go out of their way to cater to all your needs and they do it with style. Zuri means beautiful in Swahili and this slice of bliss stays true to its name.
“I loved Zuni for its serene and tranquil atmosphere, a true escape. With its beautiful beaches and tastefully decorated rooms, the views from sunrise to sunset have you wanting to take it all in with all your senses and feeling like you might never leave.”

The underlying theme surrounding my stay was the absolutely enchanting environment they were able to create. I loved the atmosphere which to me had a very Zen feel. Their attention to detail is mind blowing. Everything from their use of space and light to the sundowners they offer and music played during sunsets, creates the perfect mood for some R and R (total rest and relaxation). You really get the chance to unwind. The air conditioners are concentrated inside the mosquito net to take care of that famous Zanzibar heat and even that gets complimented by the cool evening breeze. No exaggeration here, I left all my problems at the gate.
The beaches are truly Zuri (absolutely stunning). The white sand melts through your toes as you walk and when you do decide to sit, there are little futons which they call “fatboys”, waiting for you (I still have no idea why they are called this…that can be your little adventure). You will also find hammocks swinging in the breeze between every couple of palm trees. You can watch people sail their boats into the sunset(literally) as you listen to the cool Zanzibari tunes and doze off in one of these babies (they are super comfortable). For those who want a truly exclusive experience, they do provide private beaches and for the serial swimmer, there are no tides so it is safe to swim at any time. Definitely give this place a try if you need some well-deserved relaxation. It is designed to make you feel at peace.
The Zuri experience is very modern. For those who want an authentic experience but don’t want to take it to the extreme, this place certainly does its best to provide you with the finer things and keep your body and your brain active. I loved how they offer a wide variety of activities; Peace and tranquillity for those who want to just switch off and different learning experiences for the energetic vacationer. The spice gardens were not just for show; they teach you a thing or two about agriculture (I still can’t believe pineapples grow from the ground and not trees!). If that’s not enough, you can pop over to the library and get yourself some books or DVD’s. For your body, you can learn some Tai chi (yes…I said Tai Chi). It’s a great blend of beauty and fitness.
