Three Rivers Camp is Kafunta’s superior bush camp in the south of South Luangwa. Set away from other lodges and camps, this is a luxury bush camp set on the afflux of the three rivers running through South Luangwa.

The star beds are the real draw here, at no extra cost you can choose to sleep in your comfy indoor bed or an incredible fully made bed with a mosquito net on a raised platform. Here you can watch as hippos come to munch the lawn and catch any night time action.

“For me, Three Rivers has the best rooms I’ve seen in the valley, the addition of the star bed was incredible. I managed to watch hippos munch the lawns, an elephant walk past and numerous plains game drink at the waterhole. Be warned you may not actually go to sleep!”

Star bed

The best part about this camp is the star beds by far! Doubling up as somewhere you can relax between activities it gives you the option at no added cost to have a sleep out under the stars. On a raised platform, they dress up the star beds the same as they are in the room with the addition of a large mosquito net over them. You can stargaze, watch the animals that come past and sleep under the moon.
Our recommendation is to try and go when there is a full moon, so you can clearly see the animals without the use of a spotlight, it is quite magical. Nevertheless, it is incredible with or without a full moon.

Remote

Much like its sister camp (Island Bush Camp), there are no other lodges in the area so you aren’t going to run into other guests. Like its namesake, it is based on the edge of the confluence of the three rivers in the valley, therefore, you have vast views of the rivers, riverbeds and the bush beyond.
There is a training school for guides and scouts nearby, who also make use of the remoteness of the area. You will probably see the trainee guides when you enter the park, but other than that you won’t see another soul for miles.

Game viewing

Here the game viewing is still in the early stages as the game is being habituated. However, we experienced many unique and interesting sightings, from fighting mongoose to a gemsbok. Leopards were spotted on every drive we did, so you can still see the, traditionally, more exciting wildlife here.

The walking here is also great, it’s remote and untouched so every walk is a new exploration (ok they may have pre-planned the route) finding unique and interesting flora and fauna.

  • Loved the starbed!

We have been 2 nights at Three Rivers Camp and we loved it. Very intimite while there are only 5 tents. We saw the giraffes and elephants right next to our deck. We loved spending the night in de starbed…..very special to sleep under just a mosquito net. The staff was very nice and professional. Twee game drives each day, we loved it!
