Shawa Luangwa Camp Tours
Rates/Bookings

One of South Luangwa’s newest camps, Shawa Luangwa Camp was constructed in 2020. It is situated on the Eastern bank of the Luangwa River and takes its name from the legendary Luangwa guide, Jacob Shawa who has been deeply connected to the park since he first started as a guide here many years ago. Take a boat trip before each activity to cross the river into the park to begin your experience of the wild and wonderful South Luangwa with one of the most experienced guides around.

Green!

Shawa Luangwa Camp is part of the Green Safaris group, who, as the name suggests, are famed for their eco-friendly safaris. Shawa Luangwa Camp is the first and only camp in South Luangwa to have solar electric safari game drive vehicles! Not only are these great for the environment but they’re super quiet too so you can enjoy the sounds of the bush in near silence on your activities and more importantly don’t disturb the wildlife around you.

Jacob Shawa

Jacob Shawa, the main guide and partner of the camp, has been a well-respected and revered safari guide in the South Luangwa valley for many years. Everyone knows Jacob for his incredibly infectious passion for his job, the park, the wildlife and his wonderful sense of humour, paired with a laugh that will make even the grumpiest man laugh along with him. Let him guide you round one of the wildest and animal rich national parks in Southern Africa with his outstanding knowledge and experience like no other.

Open air raised rooms

The luxury safari tents at Shawa Luangwa Camp are so unique. They offer exquisite 270° views over the Luangwa River where you can admire the wildlife in and around the water and camp. The open air allows you to immerse yourself fully in nature and enjoy the warm breeze from your surroundings and hear all the sounds of the bush around you. The tents are raised on platforms which also minimises their effect on the environment. Decorated in neutral stylish scheme with a sunken bathtub, these rooms will take your breath away.

  • Unforgettable

“In the beginning of August my girlfriend Aleksandra and I had the opportunity to travel to South Luangwa. We were quite hesitant on which lodge to choose, in the end we opted for Shawa Luangwa Camp, among others because of its location and Jacob Shawa (we read amazing things of him and his expertise on the Luangwa Valley). That being said, we couldn’t be happier with our choice. Since the very beginning, we were amazed by the hospitality of all the staff and the beauty and layout of the camp. Shawa Luangwa is smartly located in the middle of South Luangwa, giving guests easy access to the best areas in the park, from the more crowded but not less interesting south to the more virgin and pristine north. Our first game drive started literally not on the car, but from the breakfast deck, we spotted elephants, hippos and a lonely female leopard on the other side of the river. Once we jumped off on the safari vehicle, the latter was not other than confirmed, the quantity and diversity of game was beyond our expectations. However, I guess that that was not even the best, as Jacob Shawa on the wheel was absolutely brilliant, always attentive, sharing his deep knowledge of the bush and making real customized safaris, I mean not a single drive was made without first asking about our preferences and desired and expected sightings. Also we did highly appreciate Abi and his work in setting up otherworldly sundowners and skills with the flashlight during night drives, cause one thing is for sure, we enjoyed real night drives, unlike other lodges and parks where night drives are only a ride back to camp, with Jacob and Abi it was an average of two hours in the search for the most amazing creatures of the park. Since I’m not that picky about cuisine, I won’t expand on this but surely food at Shawa camp could match the most demanding expectations. To sum it up, we had an unforgettable time. It was my 8th safari and never repeated before till now that I’m planning a new visit to Shawa Camp before the year ends. Greetings from Spain”

  • Great Camp, Great Guides

“I am a big fan of Jacob Shawa having run trips with him over the past 15 years with photographers on our David Rogers Photographic Safaris. It’s great to see him in his new “home” with Green Safaris. The e vehicles are amazing for photographers and so is the camp location. Also really liked the ethos of the company and its drawing in excellent staff. I will be back”

  • BEAUTIFUL location and the most AMAZING team!!!

“We were one of the first guests able to experience this camp. But you wouldn’t be able to tell, that’s how amazing the team was able to host us!! The incredible guide Jacob Shawa with his years of experience showed us everything in the bush we wished to see, and his passion for the wildlife around him was touchable. The tents, with their open view right within a peaceful forest was just incredible, it doesn’t come close to any experience we had before. And the FOOD!!!! That chef knows exactly what he’s doing, right amounts, perfect flavors (you don’t feel like you’re overeating, what happens a LOT on safari). In one word AMAZING!”
