Pumulani is a piece of lake paradise. The glamorous rooms are like something out of a James Bond film equipped with sliding doors, not to mention they are built on the side of a hill to give you the most spectacular views in the bay. Each room is bigger than a London apartment featuring massive en-suite bathrooms with walk-in showers and baths big enough for you and a few Bond girls! The lodge itself has two pools, one on the beach and an infinity pool at the top of the hill overlooking the bay and is perfectly placed near the bar for that mid-afternoon martini! With a locally hand-built dhow, you can sail around the lake for a memorable breakfast or perfect sundowner.
The rooms here are very spacious, from the huge windows with great views, to the large comfy beds with AC above them to cool you down in the midday African heat. The rooms all have a separate living area with a private balcony or veranda and a huge en-suite bathroom with a separate bath and walk in shower. The rooms are like mini houses with endless space and at times you’ll probably wonder why you need to leave its comfort at all! But then you see all that’s on offer at the lodge and you won’t find it difficult to be tempted outside!
The lodge has its very own large dhow sailboat, crafted out of local wood it sets sail at a perfect gentle pace across the lake. Watch as fish eagles swoop as they hunt over the lake and see the people from local surrounding villages go about their daily life fishing in the dug-out canoes. You can either enjoy a delicious breakfast, a mix of continental and cooked, set out for you on your room deck on a sunny morning or take to the water as the sky turns orange and pink while the sun sets, gin and tonic in hand (and some tasty snacks!). The dhow is included in your nightly rate and is well worth more than one excursion!
Pumulani has not one, but two beautiful swimming pools; a luxury for a lodge next to a vast water source. They have an infinity pool at the top of the lodge (built into the hill), which has incredible views of the lake and is next to the lodge bar and a larger swimming pool, which is great fun for the kids, on the sandy lake shores at the bottom of the hill, where you can enjoy relaxing on the beach between dips-don’t worry they have a bar down here too!
