Mvuu Camp, based on the banks of the Shire River is a haven for Malawi wildlife. From the plentiful crocs and hippos on the banks of the river to the large herds of elephants, antelope and newly introduced black rhino, cheetah and lion! Mvuu camp is affordable and has a really great staff from the chefs to the guides, everyone here is highly skilled. Liwonde is not to be missed. Headlining Malawi’s wildlife success stories and only a short drive from the lake or the main cities it should feature on everybody’s itinerary and Mvuu Camp is a really great place to start.
Here you can partake in a range of activities such as classic game drives, immerse yourself in the bush on an exciting safari walk, tracking the animals on foot and watch the sun go down on a gentle boating safari. The River Safaris are a great way to spend the day with spectacular birding and the chance to see the animals from a different angle up close. Each activity is an opportunity to see the park’s wildlife and with great guides, you are sure to see some truly special sightings.
The guides here are fantastic, from incredible birding experts to top trackers. Most of them have been based at Mvuu for years and so can tell you the park’s incredible history, being the brink of depletion and poaching to the success story it is today with many species reintroduced and thriving, and even more on the way! Each guide is friendly but also knowledgeable, well versed with birdcalls and knowing exactly where the cheetah cubs may be hiding. They are the best in the industry (recognised with a few awards) and subsequently make the stay here worthwhile.
The food here is made by well experienced chefs so you know it’s going to be delicious. It seems their menus are endless despite being in the middle of nowhere. We really love the selection of food at lunch with tasty quiches, fresh and interesting salads, and solid staples like burgers and lasagna. The 3 course dinners are always delicious, and you can be sure you will leave here a little heavier than when you arrived!
