Luwawa operates sustainably and is in sync with the environment and local communities around them. They use solar energy to power the lodge, all fishing activities on the dam are ‘catch and release’ and all vegetables in their kitchen are homegrown in their permaculture garden with their menu promoting many vegetarian meals. The lodge also works to promote local schemes to help local people develop new skills and find different ways of supporting themselves. The Luwawa Environmental Trust helps local residents with sustainable management of the forests around the Luwawa area. The Trust has also opened an environmental education centre for use by local schools and tourists alike.
Located on the heavily forested Viphya Plateau in Northern Malawi, a fresh and malaria free climate 1,560m above sea level, Luwawa boasts stunning views. Admire the serene natural world at your feet and the sweeping dam in front while at the lodge or out on one of their thrilling activities.
