Situated right next to the Kafue River, Kaingu Lodge is set in one of the most impressive locations of Kafue. Kaingu offers an abundance of activities including wonderful walking safaris, canoeing, fishing, school & village visits, island sleep outs, viewing hides and river cruises with absolutely stunning landscapes and a sense of feeling at one with nature. If you want to get up close and personal to the wild, then Kaingu is somewhere that will offer just this. A personal safari experience, with superb scenery right in the heart of the bush.

“The management at Kaingu are extremely friendly and accommodating and went out of their way to make the whole experience top class. It is set in a beautiful location with incredible views overlooking the river. The food was sensational too and the rooms comfortable and tasteful.”

Accommodation

There are six tents at the lodge which boast a private wooden deck, each overlooking the Kafue River. The tents have stylish en-suite bathrooms with an indoor shower as well as an open-air shower. Screened entrances and doors provide a feeling of being in the heart of the bush. Solar electricity is used throughout the lodge and rooms, hot water is heated by wood boilers or solar geysers.

As well as the tents there is the private campsite. Situated right by the rapids, the three private sites on offer allow for up to a maximum of six guests in each. For those who wish to feel even more in touch with nature, this is a great way to spend a few days in the bush. Although completely separate from the lodge, each site has its own ablution block, cold and hot water, a kitchen sink and fire pits for cooking.

Great guiding

Adventurous and highly skilled guides ensure you will be getting the full safari experience when out on an activity. The friendly staff offer years of experience between them all. With a deep understanding of the bush and knowing what it is you wish to see, the guides will go out of their way to make your trip memorable, exciting and even humorous. The Lodge is owner-run and they have put a lot of heart and soul into the lodge. Together with their huge passion for perfect hospitality, the bush and the environment they make sure all guests are well looked after and feel right at home

River cruise

Kaingu offers a number of wonderful river-based activities to enjoy. The river is definitely the main attraction in the area, with the rapids, channels and islands it lends itself to a range of river based activities, including boat cruises, canoeing or even fishing. Enjoy the beautiful surrounds and relax on a river cruise, with a large variety of birdlife along the way. You will also be sure to see hippo, crocodile and even elephant that frequent the river banks.

On land, Kaingu have recently added a series – over 23km – of game drive loops south of the Kaingu carpark.  These loops regularly yield great sightings and they have access to the shishamba loops further north which are renowned.

  • Completely perfect experience on the Kafue River

This is my second trip to KaingU — I loved it so much the first time, I had to come back again. This time, I brought my family and we ALL had a wonderful time. The staff is incredibly attentive and on point. Kaley, our guide, was exceptional in suggesting activities that the whole family (including the 14 year old) would enjoy. The food is innovative and delicious — Luzy’s pumpkin pie was out of this world! The tents are clean, well-appointed and I personally love falling asleep to the sounds of the river. It’s sublime.

  • Delightful location

What a little piece of paradise. A lovely greeting awaited my daughter and I after our drive from Lusaka. The location, accommodation, food and attention were all first rate and our guide John D, knowledgable and fun. Would love to be sitting looking at that view right now.

  • Kaingu great experience

We had 3 lovely nights at Kaingu Lodge in Zambia. The staff, hosts, food and guides were terrific. Very comfortable luxury cabin on the river. Highlights were the walks in the forest with the guide and armed park ranger, evening motor boat rides for the sunsets on the spectacular Kafue River, and kayaking on the River together with a careful guide, with the challenges of avoiding rather ominous hippos standing watch.
