Located a few minutes from Flatdogs main camp, the two-roomed Jackalberry Treehouse is an excellent option for those seeking an exclusive stay in South Luangwa. Wild and unique, the Treehouse is built on a wooden deck raised about two meters off the ground and wrapped around three stunning ebony trees. Entering from the back through the long-thatched wall you will find an entirely open front with great views across a lagoon and spectacular game viewing from your deck. Guests staying at the tree house are provided with a hand-held radio, as the secluded nature of the Treehouse means that a vehicle is needed to transport you up and down from the main camp.
With a comfy sofa, easy chairs and floor cushions on the middle of the deck, Jackalberry is ideal for watching the game wandering past the house, happily oblivious to your presence. The Jackalberry Treehouse is built around three live African ebony trees (Diospyros mespiliformis) with un-spoilt views out across a dambo and lagoon system which is frequently visited by elephant and giraffe.
Jackalberry Treehouse is a private hideaway that offers a more peaceful refuge, one that is tucked beneath the treehouse’s lattice of limbs. With unimpeded views across the dambo wetlands, this little slice of the bush is particularly precious. It is serviced by a dedicated team during the day – for the rest, you’re left to enjoy the solitude of this natural sanctuary.
Food is part of the great experience at The Jackalberry. The on-site restaurant at the main camp reflects a true foodie sensibility, with delicious cuisine inspired by global culinary traditions. We recommend the romantic alternative – having dinner delivered to you. They have their own vegetable garden where tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce, rocket, sorrel, pak choi, spinach and chilli are grown. If you are a veggie, then the Treehouse if your perfect choice.
