Ivory Lodge is situated in the Sikumi Forest Reserve which is a strip of protected land that sits between Vic Falls and Hwange National Park. The lodge itself is fenced whish is unusual but it does keep the larger animals out so it’s a great spot for families with small children. The lodge sits next to a large watering hole so in the right season it attracts hundreds of elephants, it’s absolutely wonderful to watch these incredible beasts come in for a drink.
Seven of the rooms are treehouses and are built high up on stilts, each with their own balcony the views over the area, mainly over the watering hole; what a way to wake up to nature. The rooms themselves offer a simple decor but are very comfortable and each have an en-suite bathroom (with shower). Sleep up in the trees, it’s a pretty magical experience, listen to the natural surrounds of the bush as you drift off all the way up in the sky.
The watering hole really isn’t too far from the lodge itself but if you want even better views and to get up close and personal with the glorious African elephant then head to the hide. You can spend hours here watching the presidential herd play around in the water together. If you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of the other wildlife they frequent here, lion and buffalo have been seen and the birdlife is also pretty special.
The lodge doesn’t only offer wildlife-focused activities, they are proud of the community initiatives and conservation work. Guests can head out to visit the local community and learn about the culture and local lifestyles. It may not be for everyone, but the local dance group sometimes comes into the lodge and performs post-dinner entertainment; get up and enjoy a dance or two with them if you feel brave enough…it can be very entertaining.
Fantastic location with a watering hole right in front of the camp. There is also a great lookout point for keen photographers. This is the more budget sensitive option of the Amalinda Camps in Hwange and does have a fence around camp keeping the wildlife out and making it a more family friendly option. The public area has a nice homely feel to it, great guides, and they have good new modern game drive vehicles.
