Hideaways Bumbusi Wilderness Camp is not your average safari destination—it’s a sanctuary of heritage, wildlife, and solitude. Tucked away within a private concession in northern Hwange National Park, this exclusive camp invites travellers to step off the beaten path and immerse themselves in Zimbabwe’s wild history. Far from the crowds, it offers a deeper connection to the land, where every moment feels personal and every encounter feels rare.

Exceptional Location

Set against the dramatic landscape of gorges and riverbeds, the camp enjoys a remarkable position deep within Hwange’s reclaimed territory. Surrounded by dense forests of mahogany and jackalberry trees, it offers much-needed shade to both visitors and elephants during the dry season. Bumbusi is a 4-hour journey from Victoria Falls by road, half of which doubles as a scenic game drive, or a short flight followed by a wilderness transfer through the park.

Unique Activities

Adventurers can expect far more than game drives. Here, every bush walk is infused with history and raw beauty—from tracking animals at Bera Pools to tracing ancient footsteps at the Bumbusi National Monument. The camp’s surroundings tell a story dating back 4000 years, including San hunter-gatherers and late Iron Age settlements. Expect up-close sightings of giraffes, impalas, and perhaps the chilling echo of a lion’s roar by dusk.

Accommodation

The camp’s seven stone chalets are designed to reflect the rich history of the region while offering comfort in every corner. Each room accommodates two guests, with the option of a bunk bed for families. Interiors are finished with earthy tones, bold textiles, and warm lighting, creating a cosy retreat after a day in the bush. All chalets include en-suite bathrooms, and the camp also offers a pool, shaded lounges, and a communal fire for storytelling under the stars.

  • Solitude and an authentic safari experience

“A game drive where you see no other vehicles, a lodge where you see no lights or hear nothing but lions roaring, is a true luxury. This magical little camp tucked away in a remote part o Hwange, under giant trees and near the incredible Buumbusi Ruins is a must! Wonderful management staff, excellent guiding, incredible food and a nostalgic feel of Zimbabwe’s old safari camps. The visit to the ruins and the ancient rock art are very powerful, and the predator activity and beautiful rolling hills completes the picture. As a family we loved every moment!” Date of stay: July 2025

  • Outstanding safari experience in Hwange

“A wonderful safari experience at a first class lodge tucked away in a remote part of Hwange National Park. the staff were just fantastic, and the guides were outstanding. Blessed gave us the benefit of his many years of experience and knowledge of just everything in the park-learned so much. The rest of the crew were always very attentive to our needs and even though the wild animals were happy to visit the camp and the trails were a full on 4WD experience, I never felt unsafe.” Date of stay: June 2025

  • Excellent Camp

“This was a wonderful small camp. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It as really nice to have the owner participate, especially round the cap fire and at open air dinner. This was a relatively new camp and if they continue in the same vain they should have great success. The room were excellent, clean, tidy and comfortable. the layout of the camp was excellent. it was situated right in the middle of nowhere miles from anywhere. There was excellent sightings of wildlife very close to camp. I would really recommend staying at this camp. Do watch the weather, it was cold.” Date of stay: June 2025
