Once known for camping, Flatdogs Camp is now a comfortable and reasonably-priced lodge set in a beautiful location on the banks of the Luangwa River. Flatdogs is extremely well known and appreciated by all in the Luangwa Valley. With four different accommodation types from basic to luxury, you can find ideal lodging in an idyllic spot.

“Byron was a great guide; patient with all our questions and requests to stay at sightings a little longer. Another thing I love about Flatdogs is their Croc’s Nest [accommodation] and the private guiding and dining that comes with it, not to mention a private pool! 😃

Excellent value safari

Beautiful setting, high-quality accommodation, and outstanding service. Attention to detail in every possible respect. This is what you get at Flatdogs Camp. Safari tents are beautifully appointed along the river with the more expensive options getting better and better. All rooms have private bathrooms and small seating areas. The safari guides at Flatdogs are trained to the highest grade and provide a 5-star game viewing experience.

Eco-conscious

Flatdogs Camp are extremely conscious of the impact their operation has on the environment. They have taken many measures to reducing their carbon footprint including solar water heating. Now, all the safari tents hot water is generated by solar energy additionally all staff food is cooked in a ‘Save 80’ stove which uses 80% less firewood than the traditional method. Flatdogs also use sustainable building products and plant trees to preserve the local environment.

Super safari cuisine

Food is a big part of the safari experience – you eat a lot! Flatdogs have tremendous chefs who make, almost, everything from scratch; bread, nachos, “fiery” chilli sauce and pawpaw chutney. Flatdogs Camp prides themselves on using as much locally grown and raised products as possible. They have their own veggie garden where tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce, rocket, sorrel, pak choi, spinach and chilli are grown. Therefore, if you’re a vegetarian, or have any other dietary requirements, Flatdogs can provide a variety of tasty meals for you.

  • Continuing to Deliver an Excellent Experience!

We are very frequent visitors to Africa and have been to Flatdogs multiple times. It never fails to deliver. The management team is fantastic, starting with Jess and Adrian and continuing right through. The guides are also great and our guide Kennedy was a true professional. The highly flexible meal system, the quality of the food, the location of the camp and more makes this simple, straightforward property one of the very best experiences in all of Africa.

  • Amazing safari location

We have recently returned from a wonderful stay at Flatdogs Camp. From start to finish it was a great experience, on every game drive we saw at least one leopard besides a wide variety of other game. Our guides, Jonathan and Albert, made sure we were always in the heart of the action. The management and staff made us feel very welcome and well catered for and nothing was too much trouble. The quality of the food was consistently excellent over the six days we were there.

  • Guaranteed game viewings from a Lodge that’s welcoming, very comfortable & doesn’t break the bank

For this family – self driving and camping around Zambia – Flatdogs gave us a warm welcome, great facilities & good game viewing at a price that was top of our budget but much more economical than many self-styled “exclusive” safari lodges. We stayed in a double & single standard tent, both still ensuite and v comfortable. Low key, likeable AND luxurious given that you’re out there in one of Zambia’s top wildlife parks. Jess and Adrian and their team run a smart operation.
