Sunset cruise
Along with your game drives and walks, its highly recommended to take a sunset cruise along the Zambezi River. Head out just before the sun is setting, enjoy the wildlife that frequent the area, listen to the hippo calls and enjoy the sun setting whilst on the water; another peaceful and magical day in Africa. Watch as the sky is lit up by the gorgeous colours, get the camera read too; you really can’t get enough sunset snaps, each just as special as the next.
Albida Forest
The camp not only has wonderful views over the Zambezi but it is surrounded by a dense and magical forest of Albida trees. They form a source of shade during the heat of the day and are home to a number of little creatures. You can take a walk in the enchanted forest, thus offering something so different and unique to those staying here. These trees shed their pods in the dry season which in turn become a fundamental meal to a number of wild animals, especially the elephant. Don’t be too surprised if you can go too far as this majestic beauties will take first pick, you could spend all day watching them enjoy a feast.
All about the food
If you have been on safari before then you will know by the end of it, you will need to loosen a few notches on the belt. Cuisine is a huge part of the safari culture and at Chikwenya their talented chef has created some of the most delicious and inspiring dishes for guests. Local ingredients are used, and each meal has been thought out, prepared with such care and they are packed with flavour. Served in the most glorious of bush settings, this too adds to culinary experience. Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner…you are always looking forward to the next meal or treat and excited to see what has been prepared.

We were right on the river, the tents were more like cabins with all the amenities, there is nothing like looking out over the camp while elephants quietly walked all around. The staff were totally professional. Did two other camps after but this one was my favorite by far.

Magical concession and camp
I visited Chikwenya early October 2018 soon after opening. It was one of my best wildlife experiences ever. If you haven’t visited Mana Pools before, it is a must-visit destination. Chikwenya is the perfect camp to experience Mana Pools from. To walk amongst elephants in the magical albida forest is a life-changing experience…the highlight of my trip.

Luxxury Lodge on the banks of Zambezi
From our arrival until departure we received personalised friendly service. The tented units on wooden decks are the largest and best appointed ones we have stayed in. The chef produced top class meals and the setting was varied constantly. Our guide Foster went out of his way to locate birds we were looking for. Trips on the river for game and bird viewing as well as fishing were a very special experience.
