Chelinda Lodge is set amongst woodland in the North of Malawi overlooking panoramic views of the vast region of Nyika National Park. The gorgeous lodge cabins are like those you would find in the Alps, cosy and homely and built from wood and stone that has been collected from the Nyika Plateau itself. Each cabin has its very own fireplace for those chilly evenings. The rooms are spacious with en-suite bathrooms, a lounge area, and a balcony.
“Such a wonderfully unique experience to have in Africa. Malawi’s highlands are exquisitely beautiful with the freshest air around. Such fun activities to fill your day with from game drives, birding walks, fly fishing in the dams, hiking and cycling. The cabins are beautiful and very cosy with a log fire roaring away in winter and claw foot bathtubs for a soak after a busy day”

“It’s peaceful and homely feel makes this a wonderful spot to enjoy a few days, with incredible views over Nyika and the open grasslands that surround you. The fireplace in the room, and hot water bottles in the beds were a lovely touch – especially on those cold nights.”

Nyika itself offers a number of exciting and picturesque hikes. If you head up this way when visiting Malawi and are a keen hiker, then be sure to look into the Livingstonia Trail. Spend 2 nights and 3 days hiking from Chelinda to the famous Livingstonia Mission, which over-looks the vast and exquisite Lake Malawi. Trek through grass land, drink water from the streams, and hike down steep hills into forests and along the side of valleys. It’s a ‘wild’ camping experience with some of the most gorgeous settings around.
You see and experience a whole other world when out on a walk. Get one of the guides to take you around the lodge and into the woodland areas, familiarise yourself with the gorgeous flora and fauna around. You will capture wildlife and flowers that are very rarely seen when out on a drive. It’s a great way to get up close to nature and the quiet surroundings make this even more spectacular.
Due to the high altitude, Nyika is cold all year round – very different from the rest of Malawi. Chelinda Lodge has a real sense of being up a mountain in the Alps (minus the snow of course) and the log cabins have a warm feel to them with wooden floors and wood-panelled walls. Each with its very own fireplace which roars heat every night, relax with a loved one and enjoy a hot cup of tea by the fire in your den.
