Why we love Amalinda Lodge!
When to Visit
Rates/Bookings

Located in the Matobo Hills, the oldest National Park in Zimbabwe, Amalinda Lodge is an exclusive and a privately-owned safari lodge. The area alone is one of the most sought-after destinations within Zimbabwe and here they have one of the healthiest populations of endangered rhino. You feel you are on natures doorstep when staying here, it is very cleverly designed, the rooms built into the ancient granite boulders. The Lodge incorporates the natural surrounding yet offer wonderful style throughout, it is wild Africa at its best.

The Infinity Pool

The pool has been very well designed and constructed from a natural depression within the granite. The area blends beautifully and naturally into the setting and you can even enjoy some lunch down by the pool on some days. Head down to the area and enjoy a few beverages with good friends and family; it’s a magnificent unique pool and a remarkable part of the lodge.

The Homestead

The family who own Amalinda have shared their beautiful home with the residents of the Matopos. They have opened their homestead for you to share and enjoy their idyllic lifestyle with family and friends. Your very own private wilderness, enjoy nature and connect with the wild. The homestead is on the Amalinda Lodge Concession, it offers a private and intimate feel. Luxurious, comfortable and is the perfect little getaway for families equipped with everything you need.

Tracking the Rhino on foot

The area is very well protected with a high density of rhino. Tracking the rhino is a must if you visit the area and you can get the option to track both black and white rhino on foot. The area is quite open and the guides extremely experienced and knowledgeable about the area so it is likely you will find the incredible beasts. It is however good to note that they do not carry and rifles with them, although a high risk activity you are in safe hands with the guides and when you find the rhino you will be blown away.

My room was amazing, with stunning views of the park. What I loved was the uniqueness of the lodge and rooms and how they are all built into the granite rock surroundings with a perfect blend of nature and comfort. A favourite was the pool, basically a rockpool as it is built into the rocks with spectacular views. Also part of the Amalinda collection but actually a house that is perfect for families or small groups of friends. Close enough to the lodge and pool, but also not too close to have a sense of privacy.

This place is outstanding, warm hospitality, great food and exceptional guiding (Kevin was my guide and was brilliant). Billy was a brilliant manager, nothing was too much to ask. Walking with Rhinos was a definite highlight.

  • Rustic luxury at its finest

Set back in the Rocky, bush landscape of Matobo, this place is a true gem. As you drive through the bush and over boulders, you start seeing the huts and structures that construct this lodge. Most public spaces, and guest rooms are built directly on top and into the rocks of the land, to create oneness with the scenery. The pool, too, is carved out of the boulders. The rooms are all unique, each different depending its location in the landscape.
