Footsteps Camp is a rustic yet intimate retreat located in a forested area on the banks of a lagoon in the Shinde region. This hidden gem provides an authentic African safari experience. While the camp may be simple, the personal and attentive service more than compensates for the basic bucket shower. The food, prepared in the ‘bush kitchen,’ is excellent, and guests can enjoy al fresco dining with breathtaking views.

Additionally, Footsteps Camp offers a Young Explorer’s Club, where families can reserve the entire camp for a tailored safari experience. This includes a variety of engaging activities for children, such as crafting bows and arrows, tracking animals, learning to cook over an open fire, and playing football with the camp staff (with a minimum age requirement).

Intimate Camp

With only 3 tents (max 7 guests), it means that, along with the attentive staff, your needs are well catered for. The simple yet comfortable and spacious tents are well equipped for whatever you may need, with en-suite bush bathrooms, insect repellent, torches and lanterns, a wardrobe, water flasks and even flip flops and kikois for your use!

Food

Created in their ‘bush kitchen’ of an open fire and ground oven, it’s remarkable the creative and flavoursome meals they produce. With humble and locally grown and sourced ingredients, the chef prepares fresh, varied and delicious food to satisfy the hungriest and pickiest of eaters as they dine al fresco in this wild and natural paradise. After dinner, gather round the fire pit to share stories and gaze at the billions of stars above you.

Walking Safaris

Their speciality! Be sure to explore the bush on foot while you are here, with their professional guides you are completely immersed in the bush and gain a completely different perspective than on a drive. Appreciate the sights, sounds, smells and even tastes of the African wilderness as you acquaint yourself with the smaller lifeforms that make up this spectacular part of the world.

  • Amazing Experience

Just returned from Footsteps where we spent my husband’s 70th birthday. What to say? Absolutely amazing. This is our second visit and we were a little concerned that it would not live up to the last time. No need it was even better, if that’s possible. The accommodation is rustic which is what the experience is about.

  • Simply Excellent

This is one of the best camps at the Okavango Delta, run by Kerr & Downing. Everything was first class. New vehicles, well trained and friendly staff, excellent food, well stocked kitchen and bar. Our guides Opie and Kelly were very experienced and knowledgeable. Good sense of humor

  • Amazing Safari Experience

Our time at Footsteps was the best family vacation we have ever taken! The team treated us like family, yet better, as they exceeded all expectations that each one of us had. My husband and I brought our 22, 20, and 18 year old kids as well as my mother. Noah and Rapz, our guides, ensured we saw every animal possible such as multiple cheetahs, lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, zebras, crocodiles, honey badgers.
