Mhara River Camp offers a rare blend of seclusion, comfort, and immersive nature in one of Africa’s most captivating national parks. Hidden within a private concession in the southeastern corner of Mana Pools, this small, thoughtfully designed camp invites travellers to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with the wild. It’s a place where safari isn’t just an activity it is a way of life.

Exceptional Location

Set within a 33-square-kilometre private concession in Mana Pools National Park, Mhara River Camp offers exclusive access to one of Zimbabwe’s most treasured wilderness areas. It’s easily reached by a scenic charter flight to Ruckomechi Airstrip followed by a game drive, or via a six-hour road journey from Harare. The camp’s location provides incredible wildlife viewing in a quiet, crowd-free setting.

Unique Activities

Days here are filled with safari experiences that cater to all interests. Game drives traverse diverse ground, bringing guests close to elephants, lions, and elusive night-time species. For those on foot, guided walks explore the Chitake Gorge, riverine forests, and baobab groves. Sundowners are hosted in a new location each evening, while starlit bush dinners provide a magical close to the day.

Accommodation

The camp features six spacious tents, each carefully positioned for privacy and views of the Chitake River. Interiors include en-suite bathrooms, solar-powered electricity, and large gauze windows that welcome the sights and sounds of the bush. Private verandahs and tea stations allow guests to savour the peaceful setting in their own time.

Communal areas are open and inviting, offering both covered and open-air spaces for dining and relaxing. The main lodge overlooks the river and provides a serene spot to unwind between activities. Solar energy powers the camp during the day, while eco-conscious practices ensure a minimal impact on the environment.

  • Spectacular camp in Mana pools national park

“The main lodge and tents are well laid out . The view from the lodge and our tent was spectacular. Our onsuite tent was comfortable and well laid out with a tea and coffee station included . The bathroom/dressing area had a safe to secure valuables. There are charging stations for eltronics and the off grid electricity system works very well.” Date of stay: July 2025

  • The most wild and stunning place ever!! You will not regret visiting, it’s amazing!

“We had the most incredible trip to Mhara in April 2025 as a family. From the minute you arrive, you’re treated like royalty and the staff are super friendly and attentive. The camp itself is wild but luxurious and the view from the main guest area is simply breathtaking! Special shout out to our guides Liam, Dennison and Tor – they were all extremely knowledgeable – and Jen the camp host who was fantastic with our children! The food was exceptional, with amazing bush breakfasts and delicious lunches but the bush dinner was definitely a highlight for us!” Date of stay: April 2025

  • Blown away by Mhara

“You walk into the camp and are greeted with the friendliest staff and most amazing veiws of the Chitake River bed. Daily visits of Elephant in front of the camp were normal and very exciting to hear lion and Hyena to go to bed to every night. The team are phenomenally knowledgable on their flora and fauna (notably with the birds). The food has been world class the service second to none. I would highly recommend Mhara for a very unique and personal African experience.” Date of stay: April 2025
