RPS Mobile Walking Safari Tours

If you love walking safaris then this is the ultimate experience for you. Combine adventure with comfort as you explore the bush, on foot. You will walk from camp spot to camp spot and track animals through the foliage. The trek begins just after sun rise, before it gets too hot! During this time, you will examine smaller flora and fauna until you are able to find and track some of the larger animals.

During the hottest part of the day, you will be met by the team who will serve you lunch, cooked in the bush, before relaxing for a midday nap under the trees. After a lunch break and (potential) nap, you will continue towards camp, which is already set up. Here, you can have a refreshing bucket shower before dinner then you can sleep in a tent in the middle of the bush for the night. The experience lasts for a week where you can truly immerse yourself into bush life.

Walking

Walking safaris are about noticing the smaller things in the bush from the plants and trees to the birds, insects and small animals. You will learn to recognise the different alarm calls from a squirrel (different for lion and leopard), the circles of vultures, as they sniff out a kill and the many signs animals leave behind, unnoticed in a safari vehicle.

Become an honorary ranger as your guide teaches you the ways of the bush as you encounter the many species in the national park. This is truly an exciting adventure for those who wish to become one with nature.

Remoteness

Whilst some of the bush camps are remote from each other this is a completely new level of remoteness. You won’t run into anything except animals and your tent for the night. Exploring the bush as the founders did (except your tent is set up for you) you will explore untouched wilderness whilst learning how to track the animals and follow their pathways through the magical Luangwa Valley.

Guiding

Long known for a excellent standard of guides, the Mobile Walking Safari guides are the crème de la crème of the industry. Expert trackers, expert birders, experts in almost all parts of the field; they can successfully lead you into predator sightings as well as teach you the sounds, sights and smells of the bush. Braxton, who leads these trips, is top notch, not only as a guide but as a story teller round the camp fire. Listen as he tells you tales of sightings gone by, unlikely encounters and how he recognises the signals of the bush.

  • Bucket list stuff – the 7 day mobile walking safari

I have always wanted to do a walking safari. I travelled on my own, and joined the group of 5 other people. We had an amazing guide and assistant guide, Jason and Jeff, and the whole experience was fantastic. It is the most relaxing holiday, totally unconnected to the rest of the world, and a connection with nature and the wild. The food produced out of the bush kitchen was incredible. We had fresh bread rolls every day, delicious fresh lunches, cake or scones for tea, and different diets are well catered for.

  • Mobile safari

We spent a magical time on our walking safari in August. Things didn’t start well in that we arrived in Mfuwe but our luggage didn’t – not ideal when your about to start a walking safari – we need not have worried as RPS gave us toiletries and lent us kit so that we could go on our walk. We spent four nights in a remote part of South Luangwa being thoroughly spoilt – from the great guiding by Jason, ably supported by Collins and Geoffrey, to amazing meals and service within our camp from Michael and the magnificent team.
