Pure Likoma is the final resting place for Andrew after his visit to this hidden gem back in the 90s. Andrew is the guy who pioneered tourism on Likoma in 1994, with creative brains behind the award-winning Kaya Mawa and Mango Drift which he owned and managed for 15 years. Pure Likoma comprises of The Treehouse and a Beach house both constructed using up-cycled local materials handmade by local craftsmen. Almost all the wood that’s been used is from old fishing boats giving this auspicious home less carbon footprint. There is also a workshop where clothing, chandeliers and other interior pieces are made, all hand-made and from recycled materials.
Choose between a beautiful 3 bedroomed treehouse, “little kaya”, made from recycled fishing boats and old sailing dhows, or “sangala house” (the happy house) a wood and thatched clad 3 bedroomed beach house, with a wraparound verandah, dripping with bougainvillea. Enjoy the stunning views of Lake Malawi’s fresh waters as you sip your morning coffee as the sun rises from the east creating a beautiful reflection of the sun’s rays into the lake. The little kaya is built around the beach trees and displays the dreamy Robinson Cruise Island vibe.
Pure Likoma has a modern restaurant with good décor and great meals presentation for the ever-friendly staff. Eat in “pure” the organic restaurant, supplied from their 2-hectare fruit orchard and vegetable garden. Meals are prepared freshly from the garden and fruits plucked fresh from the orchard. There is also a beach bar where you can sit, relax and drink at “the southern tip of Likoma Island”, Malawi’s only island bar.
Pure Likoma is the only place on the island where you can have the beach by yourself. There is always something to do every day. They are happy to arrange a sundowner boat cruise which will take you around the Island onto Chizumulu Island and back. Head on to morning snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Malawi after breakfast and create yourself great memories of this piece of paradise. Cycle around the trails on Likoma and discover the hidden gem by yourself. You can as well relax and swim in the fresh waters of Lake Malawi.
