Welcome to Zambia! Upon arrival at Lusaka International Airport you will board your domestic flight to Livingstone, home of the Victoria Falls. You will be met at the airport by your guide and transferred to the magical Thorntree River Lodge. Owned and run by the famous African Bush Camps, exceptional service, delectable dining and a vast array of exciting activities await you. Situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, you’ll find yourself away from the crowds but close enough to the Falls to get the best of both worlds. Have a go at white water rafting or a bungee jump if you dare. Or take it easy with a sunset boat cruise and picnic. Hit the gym or the spa or wallow in their refreshing pool overlooking the river. If you fancy you can even take a game-drive into the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, home to Zambia’s only white rhinos.
Today you will make your way to your next destination, the Busanga Plains in Kafue National Park. Your home will be at the fabulous Shumba Camp, where luxury meets the wild, here is where you have the opportunity to experience a safari in a whole new way – take to the skies and admire the bush below in Shumba’s hot-air balloon. Truly a once in a lifetime experience as you glide over the plains, spotting wildlife and extraordinary views along the way. If you prefer to have your feet firmly planted on the ground, walking safaris and game drives are a great way to check out the area and try to tick off those bucket list animals, or even parked on your elevated private deck. Fingers crossed you will get a sighting of a ‘shumba’ or two during your stay.
Off we go now to the luxurious Lolebezi of the Lower Zambezi. Pure bush luxury awaits you in your open fronted suite with private plunge pool. Situated on the edge of the Zambezi River and surrounded by ancient trees, Lolebezi enjoys huge elephant numbers and a fantastic population of leopards, so head out on your game drive or walk and marvel in the beauty of this pristine environment. Canoe safaris are another ‘must’ during your stay here. Float gently down river, past pods of hippos and watch as the elephants come down to drink before heading back to your private sanctuary for a delectable meal under the African stars.
Northbound we go today as you’re flown from Lower Zambezi to South Luangwa National Park. Your Time + Tide guide will meet you at Mfuwe Airport and will transfer you to the exceptional Chinzombo. Known as one of the most luxurious lodges in the park, Chinzombo’s sweeping open fronted villas are class and style in abundance. Enjoy the treat of an enormous comfortable bed, air conditioning, claw-foot bath tub open to the sky and even WiFi if you need to stay connected. Situated in arguably the most game rich area of the park, you won’t have to travel far on your game drives or walks and you can enjoy the mornings and afternoons viewing the wildlife you’ve been dreaming of.
Moving on today to your next and final destination, another Time + Tide camp in South Luangwa, Kakuli. This historic camp was one of the very first in South Luangwa, set up by none other than Norman Carr, the man who not only pioneered the photographic walking safari but was also instrumental in establishing South Luangwa as a protected area and National Park. Follow in his footsteps and make your way into the bush on a walking safari with some of the best and most experienced guides in the business. All that walking will work up anyone’s appetite and you will be well looked after in that regard with exquisite meals and snacks whipped up for you, you will never find yourself with a rumbling tummy!
Departure Day. End of your tour! A representative from Time + Tide Kakuli will transfer you to Mfuwe airport to catch your flight back to Lusaka for your onward journey.
