Welcome to Zambia! Upon your arrival at Lusaka International Airport you will collect your luggage and catch your domestic flight to Mfuwe Airport, South Luangwa National Park. You will be met by a guide and transferred to stay at Kafunta River Lodge, a classic Zambian Safari Lodge, combining all the essentials for a great safari, including its spectacular location at the edge of the floodplain. You will spend the first night of your tour here.
Beyond the plain, lies the Luangwa River – one of the best game viewing areas in the magical South Luangwa National Park. This is indeed the premier park in Zambia and one of the best national parks in all of Africa.
Today we on a game drive transfer you will be taken to your next home in South Luangwa, Three Rivers Camp. You will spend the next 3 nights of your trip here.
Situated in an unspoiled and uncrowded part of the park, the game viewing activities at Three Rivers offer a more authentic experience. Be sure to explore a bit on foot on a walking safari with their professional and experienced guides. Back to camp for some R&R and sumptuous meals. Don’t forget to make full use of your own personal star bed which is attached to every room. Spend the night in a comfy bed, covered by nothing but a mosquito net as you gaze at the African night’s sky and listen to the nocturnal world come to life around you.
It is now time to take a drive, across the border and into Malawi. You will head straight up north to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve to stay at the lovely Tongole Wilderness Retreat for the next 2 nights.
Enjoy this time of peace and quiet, deep in the forest of the reserve. The cool and shady surrounds of the lodge are home to elephants, numerous antelope, outstanding birdlife and plenty of hippo and crocodile in the Bua River in front of the lodge. Walking safaris are a must here in combination with game drives as well as the unique canoe safaris, floating gently down the Bua River and admiring the unspoiled wilderness around you.
You will now head to Lake Malawi to cool off! You will be transferred to Ngala Beach Lodge in Dwangwa for your 2 night stay.
Set on the shores of an unspoiled part of Lake Malawi, the lodge sits at the corner where two bays meet giving it a fabulous large stretch of beach and plenty of peace and quiet. Spend the day in the infinity pool which sits above, offering fabulous views over the bay. For all adventure enthusiasts there is a forest 15-minute drive from the lodge where you can explore natural forest trails. At an extra cost you can also enjoy motorized watersports in the lake such as lake boat cruises, trips to Hot Springs and guided cultural visit tours. Beach soccer and volleyball are also available at Ngala Beach lodge, or you can opt to go for a healing morning beach walk along the shores of Lake Malawi.
Today you will be transferred back to Nkhotakota Airstrip for your charter flight to Likoma Island on Lake Malawi. You will stay here for the next three nights of your tour. Settle into your stunning chalet at Kaya Mawa and enjoy a gentle dip in the warm waters of the lake before a well deserved siesta.
Take advantage of all the exciting water-based activities like kayaking, paddle-boarding, snorkelling, scuba or a sunset cruise. A must see is St Peter’s Cathedral. Said to be the same size as Winchester Cathedral. Its stained-glass windows, crumbling masonry and sheer scale are testament to the zeal of its missionary creators’ religious conviction.
Another thing you should do is visit the Katundu workshop. Entirely run and managed by local women, they create stunning homewares from recycled products found on the island included their famous tumbled-glass chandeliers.
This morning you will rise and will be transferred to the Likoma Airstrip for your private charter to Nyika National Park. From the airstrip here you will be met by your guide from Chelinda Lodge to transfer you to the beautiful Chelinda for the last 3 nights of your trip.
Compared to the ‘Scottish highlands’ in Africa, Nyika National Park is home to plenty of plains game, hyena and even the occasional lion and leopard. The park is fabulous for walking safaris, cycling, fly fishing in the numerous freshwater dams and is famed for its spectacular birdlife, like the bar-tailed trogon.
After a day of exciting activities, spend the evening curled up in front of the roaring fire and enjoy a sumptuous three-course meal before retiring to your cosy cabin for a bath in the claw-foot bathtub and enjoy the flames in your own fireplace.
Alas, all good things must come to an end. You will be transferred to the Nyika Airstrip for your flight back to Lilongwe for your onward travel.
