Africa Safari Honeymoon FAQs

Is Africa a good honeymoon destination?

Africa is one of the world’s great honeymoon destinations, and the part we specialise in — Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique — is particularly special. You get genuine wilderness, intimate camps with very few other guests, and some of the most beautiful coastline on the continent, all in a part of Africa that still feels truly unspoilt.

When is the best time to visit Africa for a honeymoon?

It depends on where you want to go and what you want to do. For safaris in Malawi and Zambia, the dry season from May to October offers the best game viewing. Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools and Hwange are at their finest from June to October. Mozambique’s coast is wonderful from April through to November. The good news is that across our four core destinations, there is a good time to travel for most of the year. We will always advise on the best timing for your specific itinerary.

What should we pack for a honeymoon in Africa?

Neutral, lightweight clothing works best on safari — think khaki, olive and beige rather than bright colours. You will want comfortable walking shoes, a good hat, high-factor sunscreen and insect repellent. For the beach leg of your trip, pack light linen and swimwear. We send every couple a detailed packing list specific to their itinerary once they book.

Is it necessary to use a travel agency to plan our honeymoon?

For a trip like this, local expertise makes a genuine difference. Our team is based in Malawi and travels these routes regularly. We have personal relationships with the lodges and guides we recommend, we know which camps are best for couples, and we handle all the logistics across multiple countries so you do not have to. A honeymoon should be completely seamless — and that is exactly what we make it.

How long should a honeymoon safari be?

Most couples spend between ten and fourteen days, which gives enough time to do justice to both a safari and a beach stay without feeling rushed. A typical itinerary might be five to seven nights in the bush followed by four to five nights on the coast or at Lake Malawi. That said, we build every trip around what works for you — we have designed wonderful honeymoons in as little as eight days and as long as three weeks.

Is Africa safe for honeymooners?

Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique are all welcoming, stable destinations that receive couples from around the world every year. The areas we work in are remote by nature, which actually means you are well away from any urban concerns. Our camps and lodges all have experienced staff and clear safety protocols, and our team is contactable throughout your trip. We would not send anyone somewhere we would not go ourselves.
